Detectives have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman who died following a collision near Stafford late last night (August 29).
The collision happened at around 1130pm in Derrington Lane, a turning off the A518 Newport Road, west of Stafford Castle.
A 56-year-old man from Telford was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is in custody.
The vehicle we believe was involved has now been recovered by officers.
Detective Inspector Pete Goodwin, of Staffordshire Police, said the investigation was continuing and re-appealed for help.
“The information the public has been able to provide has been very helpful, so thank you to everyone who has been in touch.
“Our enquiries are continuing and we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have useful CCTV or dashcam footage.”
Ambulance crews and police attended, but sadly the woman, who was walking along the road and is believed to be from Stafford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was temporarily closed but reopened this morning.
