Security cameras in the Cannock Chase area have helped keep rare birds and their chicks safe by reducing fowl play.

Staffordshire Police Officers, along with the British Trust for Ornithology and Forestry England have been working to protect the area following several shootings of peregrines and the use of spring traps. They celebrated their success after the birds successfully fledged and moved further away from the nesting site.

The cameras were supplied and fitted free of charge from Smartwater and have enabled the area to be monitored 24/7. The feed was then sent to members of the Bird Ringing Group, Rural Crime Officer; PC Darren Wilkes and PCSO Louise Jones.
