The canal bridge on Baswich lane will not need to close again despite reports on social media. Some users on social media have suggested the bridge will only be open for four weeks and will then need to close again due to the wrong type of steel being installed.

In a statement on Facebook the “Baswich Community Group” posting an update which says:

“We have received information directly from the Canal and River Trust. Despite some of the posts recently, we can confirm that the works on the Canal Bridge are now complete. There is no problem with either the concrete or the steels (stainless steel was used to prevent future corrosion). The works have completed some 4 weeks ahead of schedule due to effective planning and favourable weather. The bridge is owned by the Canal & River Trust, it is a historic listed bridge and therefore can not be widened or replaced. No further works on the Canal Bridge are planned.

The bridge closure caused extensive queues around the town and the reopening is welcomed by locals.
