CAROLS AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE

On Monday December 19 a walk around the town centre singing carols takes place starting at the cross roads at 7pm. The singers will be accompanied by the Stafford Brigades Youth Marching Band.
As the carollers proceed up the High Street they pause at certain places and serenade the residents. The walk will conclude at the Lych gate of the Holy Trinity Church with more carols. The Ecclian Society provide punch in the church and even more carols are sung.
Warm clothing, torches and lanterns are the order of the day and the event is usually well supported by lots of folk celebrating the festive period.

 

TREE LIGHTS

In November members of the Ecclian Society and friends erected over 60 Christmas trees on the buildings in the town centre complete with lights. The Chairman of the Parish Council Graham Garner switched on the lights on Monday November 28 accompanied by Father Christmas. Santa’s sleigh arrived at the Lych gate at 4pm and Santa listened to the children’s hopes and dreams for Christmas.

ROTARYS SANTA TOUR

Each year members and friends of the Rotary Club of Eccleshall Mercia tour the area with Santa’s Sleigh visiting hundreds of homes in the area including, Gnosall, Woodseaves, Great Bridgeford, Yarnfield, Tittensor and of course Eccleshall.

Santa begins his tour on Monday 5th December at Swynnerton, Wednesday 7th December at Gnosall East, Friday 9th December at Gnosall West and on Saturday 10th December at Gnosall Heath. On Tuesday 13th December, he restarts his tour at Tittensor, Thursday 15th December at Woodseaves, Saturday 17thDecember at Yarnfield and on Monday 19th December also at Yarnfield. On Wednesday 21st December, he starts his three-day tour of Eccleshall on the Stone Road, then on Friday 23rdDecember Eccleshall West End and concluding on Saturday 24thDecember at the central section of Eccleshall. The tour will usually start at 6pm until 8pm a little earlier at the weekend events.

METHODIST FELLOWSHIP GROUP

The Springfield’s Nursery Children will perform for the members of the fellowship in the Methodist school room on Tuesday December 13 at 2pm. This has become a regular festive event by the children which is enjoyed by the members. Prior to the singing the members will enjoy a Christmas meal starting at 12 noon.

 

MENS FELLOWSHIP

The Christmas lunch for the members and partners of the Trinity men’s fellowship Group will be at The Swan at Forton on Thursday December 29 12.30 for 1pm.

 

ECCLESHALL CHURCH SERVICES

The four Churches of Eccleshall will be holding Christmas services over the festive period and everyone is invited to attend whatever they wish.
On Christmas Eve there will be a Carols by Candlelight led by Reverend Derick at the Methodist Church starting at 7.30pm.
On Christmas day there will be a Family Service at the church from 9.30am until 10.15am.
In the Holy Trinity Church the Christmas Eve service always draw a large crowd despite the start time of 11.30pm for the Midnight Mass. On Christmas day the service begins at 10am.

 

CAROL SERVICE

On Sunday 18th December, the Christmas carol Service takes place at the Holy Trinity Church starting at 6.30pm. The Eccleshall churches combine for this special and very popular service to celebrate Christmas in song.

 

TOWER BELL RINGERS

The ringers at the Holy Trinity Church will be busy over the festive period providing the seasonal rings for the various Church events.

 

BISHOP LONSDALE ACADEMY

The pupils return to school after the Christmas break on Tuesday 3rd January 2017 starting a new year as a newly formed Academy.

POETRY GROUP

The final poetry meeting in the library at Eccleshall takes place on Thursday 15th December starting at 2pm and ending at 4pm with, believe it or not Christmas poems.

 

COFFEE MORNING

The Eccleshall Support Group for the Katharine House Hospice is holding a fund-raising coffee morning in the Eccleshall Cricket Club on Saturday 10th December starting at 10am. The event will include other stalls and raffles etc.

 

WOMENS INSTITUTE

Eccleshall W I have a “Crisis at Christmas” as the theme for their meeting being held on Thursday 15th December in the parish room starting at 8pm. The guest speaker will be Linda Downwood from the Salvation Army.

LUNCHTIME CONCERT

A special Christmas lunchtime concert will take place in the Holy Trinity Church parish room, Eccleshall on Thursday 8th December starting at 1pm. A light lunch of soup and sandwiches with musical entertainment all for a £5.

AFTERNOON TEA

A Christmas themed afternoon tea will take place at the Chebsey village hall on Saturday 17th December between 12 noon and 5pm. This is part of a programme of afternoon teas organised by the folks of the villeg and welcome you to pop in.

 

COMMUNITY CINEMA

The Eccleshall Community Cinema offers two films during December starting with “Florence Foster Jenkins” on Thursday 15th December in the Royal Oak, High Street at 8pm admission£5.

On Sunday 18th December starting at 2.30pm “Finding Dory” .

 

ECCLESHALL SINGERS

The Singers are in concert during the festive period providing live entertainment at several concerts. On Saturday 10th December, they present “Winter melodies” at the community centre, Shaws Lane starting at 7.30pm admission £6. The chairs and tables will be set around the room instead of the traditional rows of seats for the audience and you are invited to bring along your own picnic supper and drinks to create a party atmosphere.
On Tuesday 13th December the Singers will perform in the church at Derrington starting at 7pm.
